Social Media 101: Get to Know Facebook

TeePublic

New to social media and want to grow your presence on Facebook? The best place to start is with the basics!

Different social media platforms skew towards unique audiences, so when deciding to grow your brand on a specific platform, it’s a good idea to decide who you want your target niche to be. To help make that decision, here’s a little bit about the user base on Facebook:

So what sets Facebook apart from other social networking websites? For one, Facebook users tend to be older than 35; the platform has also seen an enormous rise in users 65+ over the last few years. Since it is no longer the college-only platform it began as, your target audience should be slightly older if you’re planning on making it your main source of branding.

Facebook also has a well-established paid advertising system, but new users can start more simply by creating a Facebook page for their art and posting within that page.

Since Facebook users are evenly split between computer and mobile browsing, it’s important to make sure your page and your posts look great on both. The most effective Facebook ads are visually dynamic, bright, and attention-grabbing; the most effective headlines on Facebook are 5 words long.

Remember, if you post videos to Facebook, keep in mind that 85% of users watch without sound, so consider integrating closed captions!
